He said “the government continues to ignore GIMPA when providing support to tertiary institutions. This continuing discrimination against GIMPA is something we have taken up with the relevant authorities and we look forward to the day that we will not be penalised for being successful.”

He made the appeal on Saturday when GIMPA held its 13th Congregation in Accra, during which degrees were awarded to graduates who pursued various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Prof. Manu said this year, the GIMPA enrolled 1,762 students into the various undergraduate degree programmes in response to the heavy demand and trends in the tertiary education system of the country.

The rector also announced that despite all the challenges, GIMPA had extended its campuses to Tema, Takoradi and Kumasi, which have begun operations.

New degrees

He said in furtherance of the goals of the institute in making major contributions to national human resource development, it would be introducing PhD in Business Administration, PhD in Leadership, PhD in Law, Joint Executive Masters in Business Administration-Master of Laws (LLM), International Executive Masters Business Administration and LLM.

Prof. Manu announced that the GIMPA would be setting up a Centre for Law and Governance which would work closely with the Judiciary, Parliament, civil societies and political parties to enhance the quality of management in the public sectors.

Honours college

The rector said the institute was in a process of establishing an Honours College, where students who were good enough to get into the college would pay no fees but would be challenged to maintain a higher than average Grade Point Average (GPA), as well as go through a more thorough curriculum.

The initiative, Prof. Manu said, would require that the GIMPA recruited high calibre staff and offered enhanced compensation packages.

Accra City Campus

He said the GIMPA had proposed to initiate projects in the coming year such as the Accra City Campus to host evening undergraduate programmes to ease the pressure on facilities at the Greenhill Campus, a new building for the Business School on the Greenhill Campus, a cafeteria that would provide better deliveries and quality services and the first phase of the Jubilee Library.

The rector announced that Dr Goodluck Jonathan, President of Nigeria, had fully redeemed his pledge of raising $ 1 million towards the construction of the proposed Jubilee Library.
