Students entreated to be ambassadors of excellence
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. E. K. Asante, has called on fresh students of the Methodist University College Ghana (MUCG) to join forces to build on the achievements of the university as it works towards academic excellence.

This step, he said, was to make the university a centre of excellence in the West African sub-region to which people from all parts of the world would crave to enrol and acquire academic knowledge and spirituality.
The Presiding Bishop made the call at the 14th Matriculation ceremony of the MUCG.
Admissions
Two thousand, four hundred and fourteen candidates applied for admission for the 2013/ 2014 academic year but only 1, 863 candidates were offered admission to pursue various programmes of study at the university.
Out of the 1, 863 candidates, 1, 405 of them accepted the admission offer and have started their various programmes.
Infrastructural development
Speaking on the development of facilities in the university, Most Rev. Prof. Asante said the commencement of the new academic year had seen a giant leap in infrastructural development at the MUCG.
“The university college started various projects during the last academic year aimed at providing additional office accommodation for its staff, residential accommodation and lecture halls for students, and we are pleased to announce that this new development would help provide a favourable learning environment to the staff and students of the university,” he stressed.
The Presiding Bishop, who doubles as the Chairman of Council of the university, said three faculty buildings, two at the Dansoman campus and one at Tema whose construction commenced during the last academic year, had now been completed and currently in use.
Furthermore, he said the university had established a ‘magnificent edifice’, the CentreLink Hostel/ Commercial Complex, which had helped to address issues related to inadequate accommodation in the university.
He also said lecture halls, a female hostel and administration offices had been completed for the Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the Wenchi campus.
Principal’s address
Addressing the ceremony, the Principal of the MUCG, Very Rev. Prof. S. K. Adjepong, admonished the matriculates to stay away from deviant behaviours that would drag the reputation of the university in the mud but exhibit character traits that would ensure discipline and spirituality on the various campuses.
Touching on the roles and values of the MUCG, the principal said the university prepared students to be responsible citizens and leaders globally, adding, “We encourage our students to be critical thinkers and not to accept that things have to be the way they are but to think about better possibilities or options.”
