A senior Presidential Advisor, Mr P V Obeng, has called on the alumni of second cycle institutions who have made it in their careers to mentor students to appreciate the glory in hard work and perseverance in academic and moral excellence.

He said with good mentorship, coupled with the high quality academic and moral education, students of such schools would become useful citizens contributing their quota to the development of the country and also assisting their alma mater.

Mr Obeng, who was knighted by the Pope recently, made the call when he represented President John Dramani Mahama at the 50th anniversary of the St Francis Xavier Junior Seminary in Wa on Saturday.

GH¢5,000 donation

Mr Obeng, on behalf of President Mahama, presented Gh¢5,000 to the school.

He said the school, since its inception, had been able to produce people who had become leaders and were performing wonders in both local and international organisations. He said it behoved those who had made it to serve as role models to current students.

Role Models

He said the old students, through their dedicated and selfless services after school, were exhibiting the qualities they were imbued with during their training at the school, adding that they must know they were evangelising through their professional excellence.

Commendation

“The Catholic Church must be celebrated for the policy of intervening not just in the spiritual life of the people but also the material life, through education and health among others. The church must be celebrated for looking at the earthenware vessel and its content at the same time because education makes that jar durable and formidable,” Mr Obeng added.

Turning his attention to the students, Mr Obeng advised them to look at the great heights their seniors attained with very little infrastructure and endeavour to attain greater accomplishment with better infrastructure and quality course contents by their dedicated teachers.

Science Award

Dr Felix Dapare Dakora, a former student of the school and  2012 Laureate of the UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences, launched a $3,000 science award for the school.
