Omanhene announces package for Dormaa SHS

The Omanhene of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyeman Badu II, has announced a GHC100,000 package to rehabilitate dilapidated structures on the campus of the Dormaa Senior High.

In fulfilment of his pledge, he has presented a cheque for GHC20,000 and 400 bags of cement to the school at a ceremony at the school, which is his alma mater.

He also pledged to present a block moulding machine he purchased in China at the cost of about GHC30,000 to the school and pay the cost of labour to wall the part of the school without a wall.

His visit to the school to make the presentation and inspect structures at the compound formed part of activities marking his 50th birthday on Friday, May 27, 2016.

Dilapidated structures

Most structures of the Dormaa Senior High School, established more than 55 years ago, are dilapidated.

Most of the dormitories, assembly hall and the classrooms are without louvre blades and mosquito nets, thereby posing a risk to the health of the students and staff resident on campus.

Part of the school is not walled thus providing opportunity for thieves, wee smokers and thugs to frequently enter the campus to terrorise the students.

The 400 bags of cement and the initial GHC20,000 are to cater for the erection of the wall and provision of louvre blades to fix the broken ones and mosquito nets.

Address

Addressing the students, Osagyefo Agyeman Badu asked them not to allow anything to be a hindrance towards their journey to achieving higher academic laurels.

“Knowledge is power,” he said, adding that there was therefore the need for students to use their time in school to acquire as much knowledge as possible to assist them in their future endeavours.

“You need to use the time spent here to prepare yourselves for your future since education is key to your future development,” he said.

Sharing his experience with the students, Osagyefo Agyeman Badu said students in the school during his time were able to match students from other well-endowed schools in other regions, even though the school lacked some resources.

Headmistress

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Margaret Pomaa Okyereh, thanked the Omanhene for coming back to his alma mater to share his experience and assist in the rehabilitation of the dilapidated structures.

She indicated that the occasional invasion  onto the school’s compound by thugs was a source of worry to both staff and students, adding: “We are indeed grateful since the package will go a long way to alleviate these problems we face here from time to time.”
