Move from funfair to assist alma mater - Old students advised

The Headmaster of the Community Model Basic School, Mr Theodore Adjetey Adjei, has charged old students in the country to focus more on assisting their alma mater to organise academic exercises and other activities rather than limiting their programmes to reunions, funfairs and other social events.

He explained that such an action would go a long way to sharpen the minds of the current students who would one day also become old boys and girls like them.

Inspiration

At the official launch of the Osu Home Old Students Association (OHOSA) in Accra, Mr Adjei said old students could serve as role models to inspire the students in their respective schools.

He also urged the old students to explore, as stakeholders, to make their presence felt and contribute to issues pertaining to their schools.

“It should not be out of place for you, with your number of years as students, to get closer to the administration of your alma mater to assist them in fashioning out visions and missions for your old school,” he said.

He again advised the old students to coordinate the activities of other year groups and further take steps to bring together the various groups.

Association

For his part, the President of OHOSA, Mr Isaac Frimpong, said the association had been mobilising members for the past three years and considered the time appropriate for its launch.

“We want all old students to come on board, this is a form of announcement to the general public, those in Ghana and abroad that officially we have an old students association,” he said.

He assured that the old students would collaborate to create groups to champion the cause of their alma mater.

“Basically I believe that if we all come together with a single objective to help our alma mater, we can pool our resources together and effectively do it in a bigger way,” he added.

He charged the old students to help raise the standard of teaching and learning, as well as help give a facelift to the infrastructure of the school.
