The partnership, which is through the initiative of the Intercultural Chinese Centre in Accra, will be in the areas of automobile, draughtsmanship and architectural. It will also cover the exchange of technology, tools and equipment.

Consequently, two representatives of the Chinese university have visited the Construction Machinery Mechanics Training Institute (CMMTI) at Burma Camp and the NVTI Pilot Training Institute (PTI) at Kokomlemle, both in Accra to look at  ways through which the two institutions  could collaborate with the NVTI.

Representatives

They are the Director of the Quingdao University of Science and Technology Training Centre, Mr Jin Hebo, and the Head of the Environment Section of the university, Mr Yang Zheng.

At the CMMTI, the Manager of the institute, Ing. Emmanuel Ashie, said the CMMTI was ready to partner the Quingdao University to improve upon its training in the area of automobile.

He said there was a very big gap when it came to the use of latest technology in training institutions, and that once the Chinese were ready to support in that area, it would help a lot.

As part of the programme, he said there would be an exchange of instructors between the university and the NVTI in addition to the provision of equipment and tools.

“The problem we have here is the lack of tools and technical know-how and we see this collaboration as an opportunity to improve upon our facilities,” he said and called for the speedy implementation of the collaboration.

Partnership

The Manager of PTI, Mr Maxwell Zanu, who also lauded the partnership with the Qingdao University, said the institute was ready for the partnership to help develop technical training in the country.

He was hopeful that the partnership would go a long way to boost teaching and learning in the institute which had trained about 10,000  people since its establishment.

Mr Jin said he was impressed with what he had seen, especially at the PTI draughtsmanship department where students were busily working on some building designs.

“What the students are doing here is up to international standard and I am impressed,” he said.

Mr Yang said the NVTI was one great institution which could help in the transformation of the country.

He said having seen what pertained in the two institutions, “we would go back and tell our people what we have seen and see how to start the collaboration”.

Collaboration

Mr Yang  said the collaboration would also cover Information and Communications Technology (ICT), adding that from the visit, it was likely that they would start the collaboration with PTI.

The Founder of the Intercultural Chinese Centre, Mr Bright Agah, said the centre, which was affiliated to some technical training institutions in China, was set up purposely for skills training and  Chinese language training.

“Basically, we are looking at skills development and the upgrading of the youth to catch up with the present and future technology” he stated.

The Public Relations Officer of the centre, Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa, was hopeful that the implementation of the partnership would begin this year.
