GMS to make Maths Day memorable — Prof. Anku
Meagasa Mathematics Academy, in collaboration with the Ghana Mathematics Society (GMS), will hold this year’s National Mathematics Day on Valentine’s Day, February 14, to help demystify the study of mathematics.

The day will be used for awareness creation and enable students and mathematics teachers to engage in mathematics quizzes, symposia, clean-up activities and debates in their various schools and localities.
“We have designed this year’s celebration to be a memorable one,” the President of the GMS, Prof. S.E. Anku, said.
The day, which will be celebrated at the Dominion University College on the Spintex Road on the theme: “Love Ghana, Love Mathematics,” will be attended by teachers and students, among other personalities.
“As part of our efforts to encourage people to show their love for mathematics on Valentine’s Day, Ghana Mathematics Society, since 2007, has been celebrating February 14 each year as National Mathematics Day; where we show love to mathematics through practical activities,” Prof. Anku added.
Mathematics education
The GMS, he said, had been working to revamp mathematics education in Ghana over the years, indicating that the National Congress of the society was going to take place on March 1, 2017 at the Meagasa Mathematics Academy.
“We will have our homecoming which will embrace all old students of the Meagasa Mathematics Academy and also launch the Mathematics for National Education and Development (MATHNED) foundation.
Prof. Anku also noted that at the event, there would be presentations and discussions on several aspects of the themes - “Mathematics and Good Governance’’ and ‘‘The Role of Mathematics in the Oil and Gas Industries,’’ from members and invited guests in academia and civil society.
Meanwhile, he said, this year’s mathematics camps to be held from July to September had been grouped into three categories to cater for pupils from the primary to the college level.
