Two NGOs support education in Ahafo-Ano South

A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Mprego Needy Foundation, based in Kumasi, in collaboration with Adesuapa (GUTE-LERNEN) Foundation of Hamburg, Germany, has initiated a number of school projects in some communities in the Ashanti Region aimed at ensuring that the management of teaching and learning in the selected schools are done effectively.

The two organisations have together put up four residential apartments to accommodate teachers at Apenimadi in the Ahafo-Ano South District of the Ashanti Region. Each of the apartments has toilet and bathroom facilities and is fitted with beds and wardrobes.

Speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate the project, the Founder and Manager of the Mprengo Needy Foundation, Nana Owusuaa Mprego, said it was the aim of both foundations to ensure that schoolchildren received the right type of training, knowledge and guidance.

She said if children were given the right kind of education, they would grow up to become responsible citizens and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic and political development of their communities and the nation at large.

She said the two bodies decided to put up the teachers’ accommodation as an incentive to encourage them to do more in their job.

Nana Mprego advised the community to ensure that the structures were properly maintained to enable them to have a long lifespan.

She promised to provide the school with computers and also supply the apartments with solar lamps.

She disclosed that the two organisations had also constructed an 18-seater toilet facility for Bohyen M/A Primary and a two-unit classroom block for the kindergarten section of the school.

“We have, in addition, provided the school with 400 imported furniture and 100 local dual desks".

Nana Mprego further disclosed that the two bodies had donated 200 free school uniforms and 20 computers to the Essienimpong M/A school at Essienimpong in the Ejisu-Juabeng district.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Francis Manu-Adabo, commended the two organisations for their gesture which he described as unprecedented.

Nana Mprego is also the Queen of Bohyen, while Ms Christine Muller is the Founder and Manager of Adesuapa (GUTE-LERNEN) Foundation.
