Educational system churning out numbers without quality - V.C.R.A.C. Crabbe
A retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice V.C.R.A.C. Crabbe, has described Ghana's tertiary educational system as a factory churning out numbers without quality.

He said the lack of adequate funding for tertiary education had compelled many universities, including the public ones, to place quantity over quality.
At the 16th graduation ceremony of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) last Saturday, Mr Justice Crabbe said until measures were put in place to remedy the situation, the future of Ghana would remain bleak.
This year's graduation ceremony, which saw more than 1,000 graduates being awarded various certificates, was held in two folds.
The first ceremony was for the graduation of students with various master’s degrees. The second batch had graduands from undergraduate programmes.
Justice Crabbe observed that the growing unemployment rate and the decline in foreign direct investment in Ghana could be an indicator that the country's educational system was deteriorating.
“The fact that investors continue to largely shun our markets have, in the view of many analysts, been put down to core weaknesses in our educational system, and for that matter, the absence of skilled labour,” he said.
GIMPA high standards
The Rector of GIMPA, Professor Franklyn Acheampong Manu, said the institution, over the past years, had placed value on quality education above any other goal.
He said GIMPA, in the last one year, had invested more than GH¢13 million in infrastructure development, with the ultimate aim of improving the standard of education.
“This is one indication that the institution places quality above quantity,” Prof. Manu said.
