Drolor scholarship scheme for needy students

The Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, has presented a cheque for $10,000 to start a scholarship scheme for brilliant needy students in the country.

Known as the Drolor Scholarship Scheme (DSS), the initiative will initially cover 10 brilliant, needy students annually from the Greater Accra Region.

The scheme

At the launch in Accra, the Chancellor, who is known in private life as Dr Kingsley A. Fletcher and is also the Suapolor of the Se (Shai) Traditional Area, said the scheme would begin with 10 indigenes from the Ga-Dangbe Traditional Area (GDTA).

Out of the 10 beneficiaries, Dr Fletcher said nine would be awarded to students from the Shai Traditional Area, while the remaining one would go to the most brilliant student from the wider Ga–Dangbe Area.

“The selection of the Se and Ga – Dangbe Traditional Areas was significant given the fact that I am an illustrious son of the Ga - Dangbe Traditional Area, particularly Se, and it is good to give back to society what society has invested in you.

”I believe the initiative will create more opportunities for our young people to experience quality education at a prestigious institition such as the UPSA, which is undoubtedly the fastest-growing public university and the best institution for business and management education in Ghana,“ he stated.

Dr Fletcher commended the management of UPSA, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Alabi, for their commitment and dedication towards the development of the university.

Board of management

The board of management of the scheme includes the Chancellor, Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, Chairman; the Registrar UPSA, Dr Seidu M. Mustapha, member and the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies,UPSA, Dr Albert Puni, member.

The rest are the Dean of International Education and Collaboration, Prof. Goski Alabi,member, the Director of Drolor Centre for Strategic Leadership (DCSL), UPSA, Dr Samuel B. Ofei, member, and the Assistant Registrar, Mr Edward Dei – Ansong, Secretary.

Commendation

Prof. Alabi commended the chancellor for transforming the institution into a world-class university.

“On behalf of management, I express our heartfelt gratitude, to the chancellor, pledging the commitment of management to ensure that the university consolidates the gains made so far and to continue to work towards transforming the UPSA into a world-class university,“ he said.

Gracing the occasion were chiefs from the Ga-Dangbe Traditional Area, staff of the institute and students.
