The project is one of the 200 Community Day SHSs announced by the President, Mr John Dramani Mahama.

It was started in July last year and is expected to be completed in September this year, but according to the MCE, “We had a gentleman’s agreement with the contractors to finish it by July so that we can begin enrolment for the 2016/2017 academic year.”

Work progressing

At the site, masons, carpenters, welders, steel benders and their support workers were busily working.

Going on concurrently is the construction of the teachers bungalows and a three-bedroom headmaster’s bungalow with a boys’ quarters.

The MCE, who was accompanied by the Assistant Municipal Engineer in charge of projects, Mr Victor Mensah, was conducted round by the Site Engineer, Mr Frank Gyebi.

Assurance of early completion

Mr Gyebi said even though work was on hold for about six weeks, “We have resumed with commitment to finish within time.”

He gave an assurance that the teachers bungalows and the school block would be ready for use, most likely before September this year.

Mr Angenu was happy with the progress of work and the quality of materials being used and said the contractors had assured him that the structures would be ready for use before the beginning of the 2016/17 academic year.

He said his outfit had been monitoring the construction work closely to ensure that there was value for money.

He announced that the Ghana Education Service (GES) had already supplied 400 mono-desks to the assembly for use when the school was ready.

The MCE reminded people in the municipality that the school was meant for their children so it was important that they encourage their children to take their studies seriously to enable them to obtain the requisite qualification so that they could be enrolled.

Fafraha Clinic

The MCE also toured the Fafraha Clinic, which is situated close to the school and expressed optimism that the facility would be useful to the students and the entire school.

The Physician Assistant at the Fafraha Community Clinic, Ms Gloria Tettey, who conducted the MCE round the facility, appealed to the assembly to try and fence the clinic to prevent encroachment and threats from ‘wee’ smokers and other people who loiter on the premises.
