Stade Rennes track €7m Nicholas Opoku

The "Red and Blacks" are in the market desperately looking for a central defender to bring stability to their back four and manager Julien Stephan is keen on the 22-year-old Ghanaian.

Graphic Sports Online understand that Amiens have the first option for a permanent purchase of Opoku after his successful loan deal with them from Udinese this season and that could be the only stumbling block preventing Rennes from going forward.

If Amiens, who have been relegated from the French Ligue 1 fail to sign Opoku, Rennes will swoop for him for a fee of €7 million.

Despite Amiens' status as a second-tier side, they are also ready to sign Opoku outright this summer and loan him out to a Ligue 1 team for one season after which they will attempt to sell him for a higher amount.

Opoku's contract with Udinese expires on June 30, 2022 but he appears out of the plans of manager Luca Gotti and has already been told that he would be sold if a good offer was received.

The Ghana Black Stars defender joined Udinese from Tunisian side Club Africain on July 13, 2018 and made 19 Serie A appearances before being shipped to Amiens on loan in January this year.
