Yaw Preko rejoins Olympics as assistant coach

Yaw ‘Rush’ Preko has rejoined Accra Great Olympics as an assistant coach until the end of the 2021/2022 football season, the club has announced.

The former Hearts of Oak and ex-Medeama trainer returns to the club for the second time in a year, having played a stand-in role for head coach, Daniel Annor Walker, while he was excused from duties on health grounds during last season's Ghana Premier League.

As caretaker coach, Preko led Olympics to a famous 2-0 victory over Hearts of Oak as he guided the Wonder Club to three wins, one loss and a draw.

Medeama stint
He left Olympics to take up the role of head coach of Medeama in March last year as a replacement for Coach Samuel Boadu, who made a sensational move to Hearts. However, he parted ways with the club at the end of the season as the Tarkwa-based side decided against extending his contract.

Confirming coach Preko's arrival, the club wrote on its Facebook page, “Coach Yaw Preko rejoins us till the end of the season as our assistant…Welcome back home Yaw Rush.”

The 47-year-old Preko’s return will bolster Olympics’ technical team as he teams up with Coach Walker who has been handling the team without a substantive assistant.

He is expected be on the technical bench when Olympics play against 13th-placed Accra Lions in a local derby at the Accra Stadium on Sunday.
