Workshop for coaches of physically challenged sports ends in Kumasi

The Executives of the Ghana Society of Physically Disabled Sports Wing (GSPD) and the Ghana Wheel-Chair Basketball Federation (GWBF) have commended the Life Patron of GSPD, Chaoki Y. El-Aridi for his immense contribution that has helped to raise the society and the federation to a high pedestal.

Messrs Osei-Mensah and Elvis Alipui, Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the GSPD and GWBF made the commendation at a reception organised by Chaoki Y. El-Ardi for 60 coaches who took part in the just-ended one-week workshop/ tournament in Kumasi.

The workshop/tournament was organised by GSPD in collaboration with GWBF.

A technical team from the UK, Mr. Austin Kentebe, a coach and Ms. Diana Henry a Project Manager were the two resource persons who took participants, three from Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Zambia through the programme.

The Ghanaian participants were from Ashanti, Bono, Bono-East, Upper-East, Northern, Western, Savanna, Greater-Accra, Volta and Central Regions.

They were taken through rules and don’ts, classifications of athletes and among others.

They noted that, Mr Chaoki who is also the Chairman of the Ghana Social Club has since 1991 used the Social Club and his own resources to assist many of their members to be on their own.

Some were helped to train in dress making in addition to financial assistance to go into trading and other viable ventures.

They said, he has been supporting their trips for tournaments in Ivory Coast, Benin, Nigeria and Japan.

They also thanked Madam Sonia Patterson, a Jamaican and a patron of the GSPD for facilitating the trip for the technical team from UK.

Mr Chaoki for his part thanked the Executive members and the coaches for the seriousness attached to the workshop.

He was hopeful that they would translate what they have learnt to their trainees so that they could be conversant win and eventually win more laurels when they go for competition.

Mr Chaoki also commended the UK Technical team for their efforts and assured them of sustainable relationship .

Mr Chaoki said, it had been his cardinal principle to share what he has with everybody.
