The president of Tarkwa-based Medeama Football Club, Moses Armah, is unhappy with the poor representation of the Western Region in the Premier League and has called on stakeholders to work to improve the situation. The region currently boasts of only two clubs, namely, Medeama and Sekondi Hasaacas, but the bankroller of Medeama says the situation is a far cry of the reality particularly for a region which is endowed with enormous talents and passion for football.
Speaking to the Graphic Sports yesterday, Armah argued that it was about time all owners of football clubs in the region unite to make the region a strong football area as it used to be in its glory days.
“Last season, it was only Medeama that made a case for the region in terms of Premier League representation which is not too good a story to recount,” he stated.
He said there were other potentials such as Sekondi Eleven Wise, Wassaman United, Metro Stars, and Mine Stars who were capable of making it to the Premier League and needed to be encouraged through concerned efforts.
“If we are united, work not as owners of individual teams but focus on moving the region forward we will be representing the region with a much bigger force,” he contended.
On the way forward for Medeama, Armah disclosed that his side would be gunning for the ultimate, after missing the title narrowly to Kumasi Asante Kotoko last season, adding that the club will put effective machinery in place to ensure they realize their aspirations.
“I can only tell you that each day Medeama are conscious of the task ahead and doing everything possible to ensure that we are among the best and this season will be the best of among our exploits,” he said.
