The pre-mactch taunts, the psychological games from both sides served up the menu but once the whistle went for kickoff, it was time for serious play.

The Nigerians who took an early lead in the eighth minute through Alice Ogebe who finished off a cornerkick.

Faustina Ampah, who won the woman of the match award, cancelled that lead on the 18th minute when she took advantage of a melee to finish off an attack from a cornerkick

The second half was dominanted by the Ghanaian side, but it was simply not their day to win in regulation time, pushing the game straight to penalty kicks.

Goalkeeper Patricia Mantey made two brave saves of Nigeria's spot kicks - their first and last, while hardworking Grace Asantewaa was unfortunate to have her kick saved.

Ghana will now play the final against hosts, Cote d'Ivoire on Saturday, in what will be a replay of their Group A opening clash.

Nigeria and Mali clash in the third place match also to be played on Saturday afternoon.
