The club has chosen to redirect its focus towards the comprehensive nurturing of young football talents through its esteemed academy system located in Sogakope.

In a letter addressed to the GFA, WAFA outlined their strategic pivot, underpinned by a commitment to foster and shape future top-tier football professionals.

This recalibrated approach has led the club to exit Zone 2 of the Division One League, allowing them to concentrate on the development and refinement of young athletes within their academy.

Responding to this development, the GFA's Executive Council will exercise their authority as stipulated in Article 78 of the GFA Statutes to identify a suitable replacement team for WAFA in the Division One League, Zone 2. This decision will be made in accordance with established protocols and precedents.

WAFA has an illustrious history of producing exceptional football talents. Notable players like former Black Stars defender Harrison Afful, Samuel Tetteh, Christian Atsu (late), and Majeed Ashimeru have emerged from the club's academy ranks, leaving a significant imprint on Ghanaian and global football.

Originally known as Feyenoord Football Academy and established in Gomoa Feteh, Central Region, on October 23, 1999, with ties to the Dutch football club Feyenoord, the academy aimed to extend the youth development initiatives of the parent club in Rotterdam. Another core objective was to create a framework for cultivating young, talented African soccer players both technically and educationally.

In 2009, the Ghanaian company Wienco assumed control of the academy, leading to its renaming as the West African Football Academy. This transition solidified the academy's focus on nurturing and refining young talents from across the country.
