El-Wak Wings Volleyball Club came from two sets down to beat the Ghana AirForce 3-2 in a third week fixture of the Greater Accra Volleyball League staged at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra last Sunday.
The match drew a large crowd which overshadowed the few spectators who watched the Premier League encounter involving Legon Cities and Ashantigold which was a few metres away from the court.
The tension-packed encounter saw Airforce taking a 25-15 lead and winning the first set 28-26 after dominating the aerial challenges with good blocks and hits.
But the homesters came back strongly to win two straights sets of 25-17 and 27-25, while taking the fifth set 21-19 in a charged atmosphere.
The coach and team manager of El-Wak Wings, Mr Divine Edem Dotse, told the Daily Graphic that they were taking the game to the security services and were bent on winning the league this season.
“The Greater Accra Volleyball League is for us for the taking, and I mean for our ladies too. We are capturing both the male and female titles this season,” he assured.
The Chairman of the Greater Accra Volleyball Association, Edward Owusu, appealed for corporate sponsorship for the league.
“As you can see, the Greater Accra Volleyball League is growing and we are appealing to companies to throw their weight behind us to sustain it,” he appealed.
