US confirmed as host of inaugural Women’s Club World Cup in 2028

The United States will host the inaugural edition of the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup in January 2028, marking a significant milestone in the development of women’s club football.

FIFA has set the tournament for January 5–30, 2028, with 19 clubs competing in the inaugural edition. Six clubs will contest a play-in phase, with the three winners joining 13 other teams in the group stage.

The United States’ selection was officially announced on October 22, 2026, with FIFA citing its established infrastructure, services and stakeholder interest in women’s football.

The host nation was confirmed by the FIFA Council, which cited the maturity of the country’s infrastructure and services, as well as strong stakeholder interest in women’s football, as key considerations behind the decision.

The tournament will bring together leading women’s clubs from different regions to compete on the global stage, providing an opportunity to showcase the growth and quality of the women’s game.

The decision to stage the maiden edition in the United States reflects the country’s established sporting infrastructure and its capacity to host major international football events.

The competition is expected to create greater global exposure for women’s club football and strengthen efforts to expand its commercial appeal, competitiveness and international following.

Further details, including the tournament format, participating clubs and match venues, are expected to be announced by FIFA in due course.
