Tennis In Africa holds Tennis clinic
Tennis In Africa (TIA), a non-governmental organization, last Saturday put together a tennis clinic for youth who have never played tennis and provided specific drills for those who already play the sport. The event took place at the Police Depot Tennis Facility, Tesano, a suburb of Accra.

As part of the occasion, program kids were put through a variety of drills to improve specific aspects of their game including serving, return of serve, baseline rallying, approaching the net, aggressive base-liner and counter punching by Coach Yahaya MacCauley, while Coach Charles Tetteh gave the newcomers a taste of tennis by putting them through mini drills such as 'toss and catch', swinging the racquet, body positioning etc.
In her closing remarks, Patience Kodua, a US-based social tennis player, tennis enthusiast, and CEO of TIA said her outfit intends to make the event an annual affair. Tennis In Africa Inc hopes to make the sport of tennis accessible to all youth regardless of their economic circumstances.
“For some time now, Ghana’s tennis has taken a downward trend so the only way we can find a lasting solution is through these development pathways where players are given the opportunity to experience the best technical, physical and complete tennis training. Returning to my motherland, Ghana, to give back to the society has always been a dream; we make can this dream a reality.”
International Tennis Federation (ITF) Level 2 Coach, Yahaya Maccauley, Charles Tetteh and Ebenezer Otoo were resource persons for the clinic.
She added "My focus is not only on tennis programming for the less privileged but also developing the literacy skills of youth, hence building a free community library at North Kaneshie. “The Reading Station Library” formerly known as “Tennis In Africa Library” is located at 860 Ekpakpa Feemo Street.
Saturday's tennis clinic was preceded by a reading workshop facilitated by Mrs Kodua. Participants had an opportunity to read from a variety of books provided by Mrs Kodua for the event; non-readers were read to and struggling readers we're assisted to read books of their choice.
Mrs Kodua, who is based in the United States has been in Ghana since June. She organized a Reading Workshop and book donation to Peki EP Primary School on June 7th, and a free Theater Body Expression and Improvisation Workshop for participants at the library on July 14th.
