Tariq Lamptey eyes injury-free season

Fullback Tariq Lamptey has set his sights on reclaiming his place in the Brighton and Hove Albion and Black Stars teams after an injury ravaged campaign last season.

Despite Brighton enjoying their best season in the English Premier League, finishing sixth and qualifying for the Europa League, Lamptey was a fringe player as a result of injury.

He made 20 appearances with only three starts in the league and his season came to an end in March after he suffered a knee injury in a Premier League game against West Ham.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic on the sideline of the Tariq Lamptey Football Tournament held yesterday at Asamankese in the Eastern Region, Lamptey, said he was already working towards being fit at the start of next season.

"I am just working hard to get back to full fitness and hopefully. I can help the boys (Black Stars)," he said in a response to a question about if he was disappointed to be missing from Chris Hughton's latest Black Stars squad.

"I am just working hard to make sure that I am back and fit and ready for next season".

Lamptey, 22, was hopeful of more playing time, mentioning that there will be more games as a result of Brighton qualifying for Europe.

"The boys (Brighton players) have had a very fantastic season and we are really happy. We will have to go away, rest and recover and be ready for next season. I think it's a big season, lots of games and I think it will be fun".
