Steve Polack drops case against Kotoko

Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko coach, Steve Polack has promised to return to coach in the Ghana top flight after receiving offers from some local clubs since his contract was terminated by the Porcupine Warriors last month.

He has also made a u-turn about an earlier decision to seek redress in court for unfair dismissal by Kotoko.

Coach Polack, who left Ghana for Finland last Sunday, told the Graphic Sports at the Kotoka International Airport prior to his departure that despite being dissatisfied with the manner in which his contract was terminated, he was weighing up options tabled before him and would return to continue his job in the local league.

“I wasn't hurt with the manner Kotoko terminated my contract, but I felt the way it was done wasn’t right and I think it was a little bit disrespectful. But that's the way they do things and you can't change them,” he said.

Also, I wasn't hurt because when one door closes another opens. There’s been a few offers not only in Ghana, but also from outside. However, I’m going home to refresh myself and see my family, then in a few weeks I’ll know where I will go.”

On his decision not to contest the dismissal in court, Polack said he was advised by his lawyers to abandon such pursuit over the abrupt termination of his one-year contract with the club.

“When a coach’s contract is terminated in Europe, we contact our lawyers to check if everything is fine, so my lawyers told me that everything was fine after they studied the documents. So, I have no reason to take them to court.

They have always paid me on time and they always paid my bonuses, and as I am leaving now they have given me the money that is due me,” he said.

A former coach of Berekum Chelsea, Polack indicated that any future decision to join another Ghanaian side would be based on careful assessment of many things in that establishment beyond monetary considerations.

“I would love to come back to Ghana, but I will consider what the club’s plans, visions and strategies are and how we are going to get there.”

He expressed appreciation the Life Patron and owner of Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for giving him the opportunity to work with the club.
