‘Stars ’ll be ruthless against Comoros’ - Gyan

Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has urged football fans to turn up in their numbers tomorrow as the team intend to deliver victory over Comoros and keep their 2018 World Cup dream on course.

He said Ghanaians must forget about the team’s scoreless draw with the island nation last Friday, as the Stars promise a ruthless performance in Kumasi.

The Stars host Comoros at the Baba Yara Stadium tomorrow in the return leg of their second round qualifier on home soil with a winning performance.

"It's unfortunate that we did not get the desired results in Comoros, but we are determined to deliver victory in Kumasi. We won't be giving excuses, we just want to win and progress because we have our eyes set on Russia 2018," the striker told the Graphic Sports in an interview before the team emplaned to Kumasi yesterday.

Gyan, who came on as a substitute last Friday, said their focus was to win first and qualify, but they were also going to put up a performance that will thrill their fans.

"Our main aim is to qualify first because that is the most important thing. We need to win massively to reflect our pedigree; we are not under-rating our guests but we also know the stuff we are made of and we will be out to prove it," he said.

The captain refused to attrribute their poor showing in Comoros to the unresolved bonus saga, insisting the team’s focus was to take care of the “business of qualifying”.

"We know what it means to make it to the World Cup and we can't allow that dream to be derailed even before it starts. This is the very early stages and we have to clear that hurdle."

At the Stade Said Mohamed Cheikh in Moroni last Friday, the Stars missed two clear chances when Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and deputy captain, Andre Ayew, who led the team on the day, came close to scoring but watched agonisingly as their efforts hit the woodwork. The Ghanaians were also spared the embarrassment when a Comoros goal was ruled offside.

The Stars, who arrived in Kumasi yesterday, will continue their preparation at the Baba Yara Stadium this morning.
