South Africa, Senegal miss CHAN 2016 boat

Guinea and Angola caused the biggest shocks of the weekend so far as they qualified for the finals of the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda.

Guinea qualified for the tournament for locally based players for the first time after three failed attempts by eliminating Senegal.

 

Angola lost at home to South Africa in the second leg of their qualifier, but still managed to progress thanks to an aggregate victory.

Hosts Senegal came from behind against Guinea last Saturday to triumph 3-1, but went out on away goals after losing the first leg 2-0 last weekend.

After winning the first leg 2-0 at home to Burkina Faso, Sunday Oliseh’s Nigeria made sure of qualification with a goallness draw result in Ouagadougou in the return leg.

The Super Eagles reached the finals of the competition for the the second time courtesy of a 2-0 aggregate score.

Nigeria have now joined hosts Rwanda, Morocco, Tunisia, Mali, Guinea, Niger, Gabon, DR Congo, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Angola that have already qualified for the tournament.

Zambia, Gabon and Mali also booked places at the biennial tournament,

The 2016 CHAN will take place from January 16 to February 7, 2016.
