Scouting for talent for Under-15 takes off

A scouting programme intended to select players for the Under-15 national academy has begun with two teams going round the country to assess players.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, an executive member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Samuel Anim Addo and the head of scouting at the Central Region, Professor Joseph Mintah, were in the Western Region for the exercise.

The exercise dubbed: “national under-15 scouting programme” and organised at the Essipong Sports Stadium in Sekondi and the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium in Cape
Coast, saw as many as 400 young boys aged between 12-15 years participating to showcase their skills in football, but 24 were eventually picked and taken through series of training sessions .

Coach Samuel Boadu took the players through some drills and soccer techniques, including ball control, juggling, shooting , inter positional display, dribbling and shooting at close and long ranges.

U-15 WAFU

In a brief address, Mr Addo said beside exploring the means of nurturing and developing the talents of the youth, it would help them to acquire basic rudiments in playing in competitive games.

Mr Anim Addo indicated that the exercise would be extended to Kumasi, Sunyani in the coming days to select the young players who will then be assembled at Prampram to build a team to compete in the inaugural WAFU Under-15 to be held next year.

The newly recruited talents will feature for the national Under-15 team in the upcoming West Africa Football Union(WAFU) tournament in Burkina Faso from December 8 to 20.
