Mohammed Salisu’s Southampton boss sacked

Ghana centre-back Mohammed Salisu’s club, Southampton, has fired their boss, Ralph Hasenhuttle, after losing 1-4 to Newcastle on Sunday.

He was sacked following a series of poor performances in the league this season that has seen the Saints languishing in the relegation zone in 18th position on the league log.

The manager who has been in charge of the club since December 2018 succeeded Mark Hughes who was also fired over poor results.

His assistant, Richard Kitzbichler was also axed and it is reported that Luton boss, Nathan Jones, is the front runner for the position, but until a new manager is appointed, First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of the club.

The 55-year-old Austrian has won just one out of the last nine Premier League games played.

In a statement, the club said: 'Hasenhüttl, who was appointed in December 2018, departs having made a significant contribution to the club, overseeing some memorable results and also playing a key role in the development of our club infrastructure, identity and playing squad. However, we now believe it is an appropriate time to make a change.
