Sahnoon raises red flag ahead of tomorrow’s GOC polls

The President of the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), Mohammed Sahnoon, has questioned the inclusion of former Olympians and affiliates to the delegates list without the knowledge of Congress and accused the leadership of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) of planning to rig the upcoming elections on March 15.

Mr Sahnoon is contesting incumbent, Richard Akpokavie for the General Secretary position when delegates go to the polls on Wednesday to vote for new executives.

It has been months of controversies as a number of federation heads have kicked against the delay by  the Prof. Francis Dodoo-led administration in organising an elected congress immediately after the Rio Olympics Games last September.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Sahnoon said the GOC leadership were planning to rig the upcoming elections but was resolute that the perceived manipulations would not work.

"How can they decide to include Olympians and other affiliates without the knowledge of congress for approval? We expect them to be fair in their dealings ahead of the elections," he added.

Describing Wednesday's election as just a democratic process without influence from the seat of government, Mr Sahnoon promised to transform the association by bringing transparency into the affairs of the GOC when given the nod.

The legal practitioner was confident about unseating Mr Akpokavie in order to help the next administration to deliver to the expectation of various sporting federations.
