Referee Daniel Laryea to officiate at FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia

Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea has been selected as one of the 18 Video Assistant Referees (VAR) to officiate at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be staged in Indonesia, the FIFA Referees Committee has announced.

Laryea, a listed international referee for FIFA since 2014 and who has a wealth of experience in refereeing, will join 10 other African referees and assistant referees at the World Cup which will come off from Friday, November 10 to Saturday, December 2, 2023.

According to the FIFA Referees Committee, the selected officials will participate in a preparatory seminar reviewing and analyzing video clips of real match situations ahead of the tournament.

The preparations will focus on a wide range of topics such as reading and understanding of the game, teamwork, and the importance of obtaining the best position or angle – being in the right place at the right time to make the correct decisions.

They will also take part in practical training sessions with players, which will be filmed to enable participants to receive instant feedback from the instructors.

The 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup will be the 19th edition of the biennial international men's youth football tournament contested by the Under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA. 

24 teams from six confederations will participate in the games which will be played in four host cities in Indonesia.

The current champion is Brazil, which won its fourth title at the 2019 tournament on home soil.
