Razak unsure of Dede for African best

Former Ghana midfielder Abdul Razak has insisted that he doubts the chances of Black Stars deputy captain Andre Ayew to win the 2015 Africa Player of the Year accolade.

Ayew, 26, has been named in a three-man shortlist for the CAF award alongside four-time and reigning winner Yaya Toure as well as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but the 1978 winner tips Yaya Toure, to win it for fifth consecutive times.

“I have won the award before and know how it feels and would wish same for Ayew,” Razak told Nhyira FM.

“But the reality remains that Yaya Toure is favourite to win the award because he is still on top of the game. All of the nominees are performing well with their respective club and country but Yaya Toure has won it in the past four years and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

“As long as he continues to play like he is doing now, I don’t think any player can win the award at the expense of him,” he added.

The award is expected to be announced at a gala in Nigeria next month.

Ayew played a major role in Ghana's second-place finish at the 2015 African Cup of Nations held in Equatorial Guinea.

He scored 12 goals last season in the French Ligue 1 with Olympique Marseille and has been in top form with Welsh side Swansea City in the English Premier League. Goal.com
