Rahman gives Aduana slim win

Ghana Premier League champions Aduana Stars put their best foot forward at the start of the GHALCA G8, beating newly promoted Dreams FC by a lone goal at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday to take a temporary hold at the summit.

Playing before a virtually empty stadium, the two sides displayed uninspiring performance, lacking the cutting edge to deliver the kill when it mattered most.

But Aduana managed to pull through to grab the three maximum points, despite having to wait till the 38th minute for Fataw Abdul Rahman to head home the goal from a lob.

Before then, enterprising Sam Adams fired off target with only goalkeeper Ishawu Yahaya in the 14th minute.

Former King Faisal and Accra Hearts of Oak striker, and now arrowhead for Dreams, Eric Gawu, failed to live up to expectation as he failed to produce the magic that made him the onetime most feared goal poacher in the local league.

He had no antidotes to outwit his tactful markers who made sure he never had control of the ball.

Dreams midfield general, Leonard Owusu, despite his outstanding supplies to his attackers, was cut off during the latter stages of the first half, rendering Gawu and his men inactive.

Aduana redoubled their efforts and nearly increased the tally in the 59th minute but a pointblank shot by Nathaniel Asamoah was thwarted by goalkeeper Yahaya.

Dreams rediscovered their rythym which qualified them to the top flight to launch intermittent raids, but failed to convert the attacks into goals.

Noah Martey of Aduana was adjudged the man-of-the-match.
