Princesses put 8 past Combined Forces in trial game

The Black Princesses, Ghana's Under-20 female football team have beaten Combined Forces, a women's division one side in the Central Region 8-0 in a trial match played at the Robert Mensah Stadium.

The match formed part of the Princesses preparation towards the second leg of their Women's World Cup (WWC) qualifier against Uganda in Cape Coast on Saturday.

The Princesses who arrived in Cape Coast last Tuesday, have stepped up their preparations in a bid to claim a double against Uganda's Young Crested Cranes in their third round tie of the campaign.

Having been working on their finishing all week, that seem to be yielding results as they managed to score eight unanswered goals in their latest preparatory game.

The goals
Doris Boaduwaa scored a hat-trick on the day while Afia Nyarko, Sophia Agyaakwa, Evelyn Badu, Suzzy Dede Teyem and Salamatu Abdulai scored a goal each.

Tie
Two weeks ago, in Kitende, the Princesses won the first leg 2-1 with goals from Salamatu (19th) and Grace Animah (48th) with the Ugandans earning a consolation through Fauzia Najjemba’s penalty conversion.

In a conversation with head coach Ben Fokuo, he said despite the healthy lead, the Princesses were not leaving anything to chance hence the decision to play some trials before the second leg.

He said they were particularly working to improve their finishing as that has been identified as the weak link of their campaign, and was thus happy with the outcome of the match against Combined Forces, though he reckoned the challenge would not be the same against the Ugandans.

“The match was to serve a purpose and that has been achieved. It was to see how well the efforts made at improving our finishing had yielded results. From the result, I think we have made good progress, though the quality of opposition and stake between Combined Forces and the Ugandans are completely different.
