Presidential Commission of Inquiry sits today

The three-man Presidential Commission of Inquiry instituted by President John Mahama to ascertain the cause of the Black Stars’ abysmal showing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil will resume sitting at the Media Centre of the Accra Stadium at 10a.m. today.

The commission officially began its work last Monday but adjourned its sitting to today to afford the invited witnesses ample time to prepare adequately for the sitting.

Four institutions, namley Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) and the Bank of Ghana,  are expected to testify before the commission today.

With the exception of the Bank of Ghana, representatives of the three ministries were present at Monday’s sitting.

Major Tara, Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, Mr Yakubu Abudulai, Chief Director of MOYS, and Ambassador Lesley Kojo Christian and Mrs Hannah Nyarko, Chief Director and Director of the Americas Bureau respectively of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, represented their respective organisations.

However, the Chairman of the commission, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, later adjourned the sitting and gave them 48 hours to prepare well so they could avoid time-wasting in the proceedings.

The Court of Appeal Justice said the commission thought it wise to be fair to the first batch of witnesses, especially after extending invitation to them only last Friday.

He hinted that today’s sitting would be a long one from 10a.m to 5p.m.

Other members of the Commission are Mr Moses Foh-Amoaning, a broadcaster and lawyer, and Mr Kofi Anokye Owusu Darko, a banker.
