President Akufo-Addo lauds Wembley Sports

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last Monday visited the Madina Artificial Football Park complex as part of his tour of the Madina Constituency to inspect projects the government has started to improve the lives of majority of Ghanaians.

Addressing the media after inaugurating the artificial football turf, President Akufo-Addo commended the contractors, Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited, for delivering such a great work.

Optimism

The President expressed optimism that the Madina Artificial Football Turf would help nurture talents and also serve as a common ground for the development of the sport.

President Akufo-Addo, who could not hide his joy of seeing such an international standard park delivered by a solely owned Ghanaian company, urged the community to assist the authorities in managing the facility.

The Madina Artificial Sports Complex is currently the single biggest artificial football park complex in Ghana. Aside from the 11 aside football park which received grass from one of FIFA’s certified producers in Turkey called HATKO, Wembley provided floodlighting and fencing for the inner perimeter, 1,100 spectator stand with plastic seats, a VIP seating area with lounge and washrooms.

The rest are changing rooms for teams and match officials, public washrooms, a basketball court, a multipurpose court, a playground for kids, CCTV with control room, public address system, driveways and car parks.

Before the visit by the President, the national soccer team – the Black Stars, trained on the Madina Artificial Park prior to their game in Sao Tome in the qualifiers for the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

The park adds up to the over 10 pitches constructed nationwide by Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited.

Nationwide pitches

The parks were the Accra Academy Park, Ridge Church School Park, Walewale Zongo Park, Lord’s Wembley Park, which was inaugurated by President Akufo-Addo last year, and Kyebi Zongo park, among others.

The Wembley Sports Construction has plans to replicate the gesture and construct one artificial football park in every constituency in Ghana.

The President was accompanied by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Isaac Asiamah, the Minster of Inner Cities and Zongo Development, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the Member of Parliament for the Madina Constituency and a Minister of State at the Office of the Vice President, Mr Abubakar Boniface Siddique.
