Ping-pong League: Spinners clash with Police

League Leaders Tesano Spinners hope to capitalise on the withdrawal of third-placed SmartLine@Emefs to account for fourth-placed Ghana Police Service when the second round of the Stanbic Bank-Graphic Sports National table Tennis League resumes at the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Stadium tomorrow after a week’s break.

The Nigerian duo of Rilwan Akanbi and Ahmed Bello have so far been a formidable force for Spinners and, in an interview with the Graphic Sports a fortnight ago, they vowed to win the title for their club.

However, the Police will be a hard nut to crack as they look set to put paid to the unbeaten run of Spinners.

Defending champions, Immigration, currently second on the ladder, are also aiming to dislodge Spinners from the top.

Only two points separate the two teams and national team players, Emmanuel Commey, Derek Abrefa and Felix Lartey are eager to wrest power from Spinners. To achieve that feat, the Immigration lads must first beat Ashaiman Power Club in their first encounter of round one.

In other first round matches, Synergy will meet Team Coach Addo, Madina Stars and Fire get a bye, Navy engage Eastern Loopers, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) play Army and Western Table Tennis Club face Team Baboo.

The second matches of the day will see Immigration against Team Coach Addo, Ashaiman Power Club versus Tesano Spinners, Synergy versus Madina Stars and Ghana Police Service versus Ghana Army.

The other matches will witness Team Baboo against Western Table Tennis Club, Kings Royal Academy meet Eastern Loopers and Fire versus Navy.

The thrilling fixtures in the women’s division will see Police playing Western Table Tennis Club, GRA versus Navy, Madina Stars versus Army, Tesano Spinners play Ashanti Otumfuo Stars, while Immigration draw a bye.
