Andrew Owusu apologises to former athletics boss, George Haldane-Lutterodt

Athletics legend, Andrew Owusu, has rendered an unqualified apology to former Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) chairman, George Haldane-Lutterodt, over allegations he made against the former athletics chief in 2014.

In a letter of apology copied to the Daily Graphic, Owusu said comments he made that a visa racketeering scandal took place while Mr Haldane-Lutterodt was GAA boss was unfounded. The retired athlete, who is an assistant professor of Middle Tennessee University in the USA, said he had, therefore, retracted his comments
“On October 25, 2014, I, Andrew Owusu, on a sports show on Radio Gold, made the statement that a visa racketeering scandal happened during the tenure of George Haldane-Lutterodt as Chairman of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) when I was an athlete.
“I render an unqualified apology to Mr Haldane-Lutterodt and unequivocally state, as I have elsewhere, that he was never personally involved in any visa racketeering act during his tenure,” the letter said.

Below is the letter:
