The championship, which will be held at the poolside of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on November 1, is not only designed to unearth talents across the country, but also to induce the youth to be interested in the sport.

According to Seth Nti, General Secretary of GSF, the swimmers competing for honours would be drawn from swimming clubs such as Anopa Projects (Cape Coast), Morgan International Community School (Swedru), KNUST Dolphins ( Kumasi), Para Swimming Club (Takoradi), Ghana Dolphins (Accra), Lincoln Community School (Abelenkpe), Ombi Swimming Club (Accra) and Legon Swimming Club (Legon).

“It is the first time competition of such magnitude is being held in Kumasi, and already it is generating keen interest among the participating clubs,” he noted.

He said the various clubs were intensifying their preparations for them to produce champions who would grab many of the trophies at stake.

Ahead of the championship, on Saturday, October 31, the federation will hold its second elective congress at the Silicon Hotel in Kumasi to elect new officers.

Mr Nti said holding both the congress and the swimming competition in Kumasi was strategic in an effort to decentralise the operations of the federation and also create much awareness about their activities.

He said the federation had already opened nomination for the election of new executive members and implored interested members intended to vie for positions to pick nomination forms.

The nomination, which was opened last Tuesday, will witness registered members of the federation vying for portfolios such as president, vice president, 2nd vice president, general secretary and treasurer.
