The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to open the Millennium Excellence Week 2026 in Washington DC on Monday [August 24], with the MEA Otumfuo Invitational Golf Tournament.
The event, organised in honour of the patron of the Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF), will bring together investors, business leaders, diplomatic representatives, founders, family office principals, sponsors and partners as the week-long programme begins.
The Asantehene is expected to strike the ceremonial first ball at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia, to officially commence the tournament.
According to the Millennium Excellence Foundation, the golf invitational is intended not only as a sporting event but also as an opportunity for participants to build relationships and explore potential partnerships ahead of the main activities of the week.
The Army Navy Country Club, established in 1924, is one of Washington’s historic sporting venues and has hosted prominent military leaders and five US Presidents.
President of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, Nana Agyeman Prempeh, said starting the week with golf was a deliberate decision to create an informal environment where participants could connect.
Among the personalities expected to participate in the invitational are Kodwo (Kojo) Mills, Founder and Managing Partner of Vibranium Capital Group, an Africa-focused investment firm.
Also joining the field is Olajuwon Ajanaku, Co-Founder of Eastside Golf, a lifestyle brand seeking to expand access to golf, while David Lubotta, President and Managing Partner of DML Capital Partners, is expected to participate.
The golf tournament will be followed by a series of activities focused on leadership, investment, business, culture and the celebration of excellence.
