Otto Addo names GPL stars Okrah, Barnieh in 33-man Black Stars AFCON qualifiers squad

In-form Bechem United winger Augustine Okrah has been named in coach Otto Addo's 33-man squad for next week's African Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar and the Central African Republic.

Okrah, 28, is one of two local-based players included in the squad with Accra Hearts of Oak forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh also joining the party.

Okrah has scored 13 goals in the Ghana Premier League and provided three assists while Barnieh, 20, has scored eight league goals and provided three assists.

The Black Stars will also take part in a four-nation tournament against Japan, Chile and Tunisia as part of preparations for the 2022 World Cup in November.

Returnees

Captain Andre Ayew who missed the World Cup play-offs against Nigeria through a two-match suspension has been handed a recall to the squad.

Also, returning to the squad are Mubarak Wakasso, Jonathan Mensah and Kamaldeen Sulemana.

The trio have not played for the Black Stars since the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

A notable absentee from the squad is Strasbourg central defender Alexander Djiku who is on the verge of leaving the French Lige 1 side.

Ghana will begin her Group E campaign in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar on Wednesday, June 1, before taking on the Central African Republic on June 5.
