Olympics: Ghana qualifies for men’s 4x100m relay final on Friday

Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team qualified for the finals of the men’s 4x100m relays with a National Record 38.08 seconds time in their heat on Thursday morning.

The quartet of Sean Safo-Antwi, Benjamin Azamati, Emmanuel Yeboah and Joseph Paul Amoah who are making their debut at the Olympics in Japan finished fifth in a fast heat which secured qualification as one of two fastest losers.

Their time was 0.04seconds better than the previous record of 38.12 seconds which was set at the 1997 World Championships in Greece by the quartet of Abu Duah, Eric Nkansah, Aziz Zakari and Emmanuel Tuffour.

Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team will attempt to win the country's second medal at the 2020 Olympics in the final scheduled for 13:50GMT on Friday.

China were the surprise heat winners in 37.92 seconds followed by Canada and Italy, helped by newly-crowned individual 100m champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs who posted a national record 37.95 seconds to also advance.

Germany (38.06) and Ghana (38.08) also finished ahead of the USA (38.10) to take the two fastest losers' slots in Friday's final.
