Obour offered scholarship by University of Ghana

Bronze-winning medalist at the recent African Games, Grace Obour, has been offered a scholarship to pursue further studies at the University of Ghana.

The 18-year-old would be the first female sprinter from the GNPC Ghana's Fastest Human fold to receive the honour to pursue an undergraduate programme.

Her scholarship followed her impressive display at the African Games in Morocco where she won bronze in the women's 400m race.

This was disclosed to the Daily Graphic by the CEO of the GNPC Ghana's Fastest Human, Mr Reks Brobby, who said they had received approval from the athlete’s family to bring her down to Accra to continue with her education.

"We have been able to get Grace to sign up with the University of Ghana, Legon and the Vice Chancellor [Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu] has given her a full scholarship to begin as soon as possible," Mr Brobby said.

He explained that the local sprint queen, who completed T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS with flying colours, came from a deprived background and, therefore, needed support, adding that the scholarship from the university came in handy to help shape the future of the athlete.

The athlete has been offered an all-expense-paid education at the nation’s premier university and was expected to meet a counsellor to advise her on the course to pursue.

According to Brobby, the athlete would arrive in Accra from her village later this month to begin preparation for her tertiary education.
