Asante Kotoko’s stop-gap coach Hamza Obeng has challenged his attackers to improve their finishing and convert more chances as the club seeks to sharpen its attacking edge in the Ghana Premier League.
The Porcupine Warriors’ attacking trio of Isaac Opoku, Emmanuel Mamah and Solomon Nsoh have scored a combined five goals for the club this season, but Obeng believes they must do more to meet expectations.
Although satisfied with their progress, the coach insists that scoring goals remains the primary responsibility of his forwards and has urged them to become more clinical in front of goal.
“Much better, but they need to improve more because that’s their hallmark. The only thing we need from them is for them to put the ball in the back of the net,” he said.
Obeng noted that Kotoko’s midfielders had been creating opportunities for the attackers, making it imperative for the forwards to make better use of the chances coming their way.
He urged them to exercise patience and composure in the final third rather than squander promising opportunities.
“The midfielders are able to create the chances in the final third, and the only thing we need from them is to exercise patience, have composure in the attacking third and put the ball at the net,” he added.
The coach will be hoping his forwards respond to the challenge by improving their conversion rate as Kotoko seek greater consistency and a stronger return in front of goal in their remaining league matches.
