The Board of Stewards of the Accra Turf Club will commence the New Years racing calendar with a day’s championship for jockeys and their horses this afternoon at the Accra Turf Club at Borteyman.
This arrangement comes after the Boxing Day programme which was called off when the Horse Owners Association appealed to the board to allow the Christmas festivities end before racing resumed.
Racing over a distance of 1,400 metres, horses from Division 2B and 3A will compete for honours, with Harold Darko’s Ginger and Wings ready to do battle against Nii Corquaye’s General Salute, Ahmed Tijani’s Die Hard and Nuru Paddie’s Who is Free.
The first race for the day, which is open to horses in the Division 4A and 4C category, will see Amora, King of Kings, Ikaida, Happiness, Wonderboy, Sweet Morinus, Nine Eleven, I Spirit, Dante and Let Them Say compete over a distance of 1,400 metres (seven furlongs).
Horses such as Sly Mongoose, Sea Never Dry, Fresh Boy, Mercedes, Simple Great, Bonanza and Diplomatic Lady will face it off in the Division 3B race over a distance of 1,200 (six furlongs).
The final race of the day, which is opened to horses in the Novices Division, will see Larro and Surprise, owned by Denis Ahinakwa, fight for the ultimate against Nii Yemo Odoi’s Snow White and Maricus Junior, as well as Bushon Sugar, Tse Addo, Black Thunder, Zongo Lane, Nudian Prince and Heart Free.
According to the organisers, the gates will open at 1:30 pm and will attract a fee of GH¢2.
