MTN renews pledge to sports, SWAG

Telecommunications giants, MTN, says it will continue to invest heavily in sports as a means to deepen its relationship with customers and also promote competitiveness in order to unleash the can-do spirit of Ghanaians which are some of the core values of the brand.

In doing so, MTN is looking forward to deepen its relationship with the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) through the sponsorship of the annual MTN-SWAG awards and other important activities of the association.

The CEO of MTN, Mr Ebenezer Twum Asante, gave the assurance when he met the new executive of SWAG, led by its President Mr Kwabena Yeboah, at MTN’s corporate head offices at Ridge in Accra.

The meeting provided an opportunity for Mr Yeboah to introduce the new SWAG leadership to the MTN boss and his top executives including the Corporate Services Executive, Ms Cynthia Lumor; the acting Senior Corporate Communications Manager, Efua Falconer; Franklin Sowah of the Marketing department; and Shiela Sorinye, Media Relations Officer.

Mr Asante said sports was one of the properties that MTN invested heavily into and will seek to build a stronger partnership with SWAG and explore new ways by which the two bodies can cooperate to grow MTN’s sports properties, including making SWAG an official partner in the organisation of the annual MTN FA Cup competition.

The SWAG president took the opportunity to congratulate Mr Asante on being the first Ghanaian to head the country’s biggest telecom operator and also thank the company for providing GH¢35,000 as headline sponsor of this year’s MTN SWAG Awards which comes off in Accra on October 3.

Mr Yeboah said his administration was embarking on establishing regional chapters of SWAG and would need a dedicated account using MTN’s Mobile Money platform for use by its members to pay their annual subscription fees and other transactions. He also sought the support of MTN for the creation of a closed user group to facilitate efficient communication among members.
