The bout, expected to be staged in Nigeria later this year, will also mark the 58th birthday celebration of the dreadlocked fighter.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday in Accra, McIntosh, who told this paper that he started fighting at the age of 14, said he had finally decided to call it quits.

He gave a long narration of his journey into boxing, while recalling when as a young primary student in Biafra after Mohamed Ali defeated George Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle in DR Congo, a teacher assembled all students and asked who wanted to be a boxer and he was the only person among the lot to raise his hand to show interest in the sport.

According to him, the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ defined his boxing career and set him on the path towards becoming a great African boxer.

Born Anazor Obele in Lagos, the boxing braggart has only won three out of 21 fights in his chequered professional career.

The fighter, whose major professional bouts happened in Ghana, said he enjoyed all his fights, including those he lost.

He expressed gratitude to the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Coach Adama of Osekan Beach, Kwesi Pratt of the Insight newspaper, and ‘The Freedom Centre’ for their respective contributions in his life.

The avid guitarist says he has now taken to his new passion for playing the guitar and composing revolutionary songs.
