Martha Bissah wins 800m, 1,500m races at MEAC Champs

Martha Bissah concluded a dominant year in MEAC competition Saturday by winning gold medals in the 800 and 1,500 meters Saturday at the 2018 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of North Carolina A&T.

Bissah – the conference cross country champion in the fall and MEAC Indoor MVP in February – cruised to wins in events she was the heavy favorite in coming in.

The Ghanaian posted times of 2:05.48 in the 800 and 4:28.64 in the 1,500 to help the Spartans to a fifth-place finish in the team standings. Bissah won every individual MEAC cross country or track race she was entered in this year.

Martha won a gold medal in the Girls' 800metre race at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in a time of 2:04:90 minutes.

Martha on her return from the Olympics was promised a scholarship by President John Mahama in a State of the Nation address on February 26, 2015.

She was unable to access the government grant till she received a $32,000 per annum scholarship from NSU.
