The Deputy Director General (Technical) of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Saka Acquaye has given the indication that lifesaving and diving will be given a boost this year across the country.

To this end, he said the Ghana Life-saving and Diving Association (GHALDA) will be encouraged to organise lifesaving and diving competitions in every nook and cranny of the country.

Opening a six-day international life-saving level one technical course at the Accra stadium last Saturday, Mr Acquaye said the NSA would support Ghana’s contingent to the upcoming Lifesaving World Championships being held in Adelaide, Australia, from November 16 to December 2.

Belgian lifesaving and diving expert, Nuyena Wim, is conducting the course for participants drawn from Nigeria, Togo and Ghana.

The participants are being taken through basics of lifesaving and diving, technical aspects of the two disciplines, drowning prevention and practical lessons across water bodies.

The acting president of GHALDA, David Kwasi Afezame, charged the trainee coaches to use the opportunity offered by the international body to gain valuable insights into the sports to help their careers and help society to prevent drowning.

Mr Wim told the Graphic Sports that the course would equip the participants with techniques of diving, as well as prevent drowning at the beaches and the pools.
