Liberty Professionals pip Karela at Dansoman

Substitute striker Alex Ofosu Acheampong made the difference in the clash between Liberty Professionals and visiting Karela FC at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman yesterday, when his 53rd minute strike inside the box gave Liberty a 1-0 victory.

Both teams struggled to make any meaningful use of the ball in the first half as they squandered the few opportunities that came their way.

However, Liberty, determined to lift themselves from the relegation zone, launched an onslaught on the left flank late in the half, with winger William Dankyi and attackers Simon Zibo and Emmanuel Amoh leading the search for the opener.

The visitors came into the game late in the half and nearly fetched the opener when Ivorian import Jean Vital found Sadiq Alhassin but the striker’s last effort in the box went wide.

Back from recess, Liberty introduced Ofosu Acheampong who had an impact and started tormenting his opponents.

Liberty won a corner kick in one of their attacks which was floated by winger William Dankyi. Acheampong latched onto the ball and meandered his way through two defenders before shooting to the top right corner to set the stadium agog.

Karela FC responded by bringing on Captain William Mensah, but his presence did little to energise the attack as Liberty held on to protect their lone goal.
