Let's beat Uruguay as pay back to Suarez, Mahama tells Stars

Ex-President, John Dramani Mahama, has challenged the Black Stars to work hard and beat Uruaguay in their World Cup game to serve a payback to Luis Suarez.

It will be recalled that in 2010 Suarez broke the nation’s heart when he punched away a goal bound short to deny the Black Stars an opportunity to progress to the semi-finals of the World Cup in South Africa.

But the former President told Ghana Football Association (GFA) president, Kurt Okraku that this is the time for Ghana to get revenge by beating Uruguay.

According to President Mahama even though Ghana’s Group could be considered as the group of death, it was by divine that the two teams have been paired in the same group again so that the Black Stars will make Suarez feel the way Ghanaians felt in 2010.

He encouraged them that even if they cannot beat any team in the group they should do well to at least beat the South American side to give Ghanaians that sweet revenge.

“Unfortunately, we are in a Group of death. The teams in our Group are the strongest and look at what faith has made, bringing Uruguay into our Group again.

“It will be sweet revenge if we score them and so even if you don’t beat anybody just beat Uruguay for me and let pay Suarez back for what he did to us”, President Mahama said.
