La Liga: Deportivo La Coruna sign Sulley Muntari

Spanish La Liga club Deportivo La Coruna have announced the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Suleyman Ali "Sulley" Muntari on a short-term deal until the end of the 2017/2018 Spanish La Liga season.

Muntari, 33, has been on the trial with the team since February 9 and will become the first Ghanaian to wear the iconic blue and white shirt in the 111-year history of Deportivo.

Sulley Muntari is one of only two players (along with Asamoah Gyan) who has played at three FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010 and 2014) in which the 'Black Stars' have participated, playing nine matches and scoring two goals.

He made his name with the Black Satellites (Ghana's U-20 team) with whom he reached the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2001 aged only 16 years old.

Starting out with Liberty Professionals in his native Ghana, Muntari landed in Europe after that U-20 World Cup with Italian club Udinese. In the Friulian club, he made the jump to the first team in the following season aged 18 years.

He has since gone on to win the English FA Cup, two Italian Cups, Scudetti, Super Cups, a UEFA Champions League and a FIFA Club World Cup after stints with Portsmouth, Inter Milan and AC Milan.

Muntari spent the last two campaigns playing in the Saudi Arabian league with Al-Ittihad and Pescara in the Serie A.

Deportivo are currently 19th on the La Liga table with 17 points and they face Espanyol on Friday in the Spanish League.
