Kotoko to pull brakes on Ashgold?

There is more than one reason why Sunday’s Ghana Premier League clash between regional rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Len Clay Stadium will attract such high interest apart from the quest for the three points at stake.

Both sides have made some changes, Kotoko in their technical directorate with Paa Kwesi Fabin taking over and Ashgold making significant changes to their administration, with former Kotoko management member, Dr Kwaku ‘Champion’ Frimpong, now fully charge of the Miners.

Having won their first win at Len Clay last season in over four seasons, Kotoko will be storming Obuasi with the hope of pulling the brakes on Ashgold who so far have an unbeaten record this season.

the Miners so far, this season, have three wins and a draw in the opening four games and they will be out to maintain that record, and thus likely to fiercely fight off Kotoko’s challenge.

Ashgold coach, C.K. Akonnor claims his charges have declared Len Clay ‘an all must fall’ territory and have warned Kotoko to be wary, else they suffer the same fate, their rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak did in their second match of the league season.

Having managed a 1-1 draw with Bechem United in their last outing, Ashantigold will be bent on returning to winning ways against a Kotoko side that seek consecutive win after beating Eleven Wonders by a lone goal.

The match promises to be a tough one especially when Kotoko managed to win 1-0 at the same grounds last season despite losing twice in their last three attempts.

Shafiu Mumuni, Joshua Tijani, Amos Addai, Richard Osei Agyemang, James Akamino and Joseph Gordon among others must be at their best to propel Ashantigold to victory in an expected entertaining match.

Kotoko coach Paa Kwesi Fabin also insists they he has the men to pull the brakes under Ashgold, obviously ready to field the likes of Amos Frimpong, Emmanuel Gyamfi, Jordan Opoku, Felix Annan, Baba Mahama, Yakubu Mohmamed and Augustine Sefa as the men for this ‘Operation Ashgold must fall’ battle.

Third-placed Accra Hearts of Oak are looking to continue with their resurgence when they lock horns with Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park. Having had a shaky start to the season with a draw and a loss in their opening two games, the Phobians came back stronger with two consecutive wins over Ebusua Dwarfs and Dreams FC in their last two matches.

At the Tema Stadium, second-placed WAFA will play as visitors to Inter Allies who are seeking to bounce back from a painful 0-6 defeat to champions Aduana Stars last Sunday.

Newly-promoted sides, Dreams FC and Karela United battle it out at the Dawu Park while Liberty Professionals aim for their first victory of the season when they visit the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium to face Techiman Eleven Wonders.

In other matches, Ebusua Dwarfs and Bechem United will engage each other at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium tomorrow in the first of two matches to be telecast live by StarTimes at the venue with

Later in the evening at 6pm, Wa All Stars will engage 12th-placed Elmina Sharks at Obuasi in the second live telecast.
